Green Line Vision / Toronto, 2013

Green Line Vision

The Green Line project was conceived and initiated by Workshop Architecture with the Davenport Neighbourhood Association. It began with an international ideas competition that asked artists and designers to contribute to an overall vision for the public use of a 5km long hydro corridor across mid-town Toronto. We displayed a selection of the 77 entries at a public event and workshop in May 2013 attended by over 300 people, three councillors and the local MP and MPP.

Workshop Architecture commissioned artist Mark Kasumovic to create large-format art photos of the hydro corridor which were exhibited outdoors for the month of May as part of CONTACT Photography Festival. The exhibit of designs and photos moved to the Urbanspace Gallery for the summer.

The Green Line Vision received a 2013 Toronto Urban Design Award of Merit. The project was realized with assistance from Backyard Design and received support from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Association of Architects, Toronto Society of Architects and Astley Gilbert Printers. Workshop Architecture are currently working with the non-profit organization Park People on the next phase of the project.
